International Workshop Held at Habiganj Agricultural University
An international workshop titled “AMMNet Insight: Habiganj Event” was held at Habiganj Agricultural University for two days on Friday (21 November) and Saturday (22 November). The workshop was organized by the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science of the university, in collaboration with the Applied Malaria Modelling Network (AMMNet) Bangladesh Chapter. The event took place in the university conference room.
Distinguished teachers, researchers, public health experts from home and abroad, and research-enthusiastic students participated in the workshop. The closing ceremony was graced by the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Dr. Syed Sayeem Uddin Ahmed, as the Chief Guest. Special guests included Dr. Md. Muklishur Rahman, Deputy Civil Surgeon, Habiganj, and Dr. Md. Hasanuzzaman, Principal Scientific Officer, Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agriculture. The keynote speaker of the workshop was Professor Dr. Mark Viney from the University of Liverpool, UK, a renowned researcher who delivered an important lecture on malaria biology, modelling, and modern research methodologies. The closing ceremony was conducted by Dr. Md. Shamim Uddin, Lecturer, Habiganj Agricultural University, and Dr. Tilak Chandra Nath, Associate Professor and Coordinator, AMMNet Bangladesh Chapter.
Various sessions of the two-day workshop were conducted by Associate Professor Dr. Rubaiyat N. Akhand (SKAUST), Associate Professor Dr. Tilak Chandra Nath (SKAUST), Sabyasachi Niloy (BAU), Redowan Rakib (SKAUST), and Principal Scientific Officer Dr. Md. Hasanuzzaman. Participants received hands-on training in malaria modelling, parasitology, bioinformatics, geographic information systems, and data analysis. According to the participants, the workshop will play an effective role in enhancing their skills in public health research, epidemiological analysis, and malaria control activities.
In his speech, the Vice-Chancellor congratulated the AMMNet Bangladesh Chapter, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science, and all concerned for successfully organizing the workshop. He added that the knowledge gained from the workshop would significantly contribute to public health research and malaria prevention initiatives. In their concluding remarks, the guests emphasized the need for strengthening international research collaboration, expanding technology-based training, and developing skilled human resources for malaria control. The event concluded with the distribution of certificates among the participants.
