Tree Plantation at Habiganj Agricultural University as Part of the ‘250 Million Trees in 5 Years’ Programme 

As part of the government’s initiative to plant 250 million trees over five years, the second phase of a tree plantation programme was held at Habiganj Agricultural University on Monday (7 September). The programme was implemented across the university campus with the aim of environmental conservation, biodiversity protection, and enhancing greenery on the campus. 

A total of 25 saplings of fruit-bearing, forest, and medicinal plant species were planted at different locations across the university campus. The programme was attended by the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Dr. Md. Mozammel Hoque, along with students, teachers, officers, and employees. 

In line with the directives of the Ministry of Education and the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh, Habiganj Agricultural University has been carrying out this initiative as part of the government’s national tree plantation programme. Following the successful completion of the first phase of the tree plantation programme, saplings were planted on the campus for the second time. 

On the occasion, the Vice-Chancellor stated that the objective of the programme is not only to plant saplings but also to ensure their proper care and nurturing so that they can grow into fully developed trees. He further expressed that similar initiatives would continue to be undertaken and implemented regularly in the future to promote environmental conservation and sustainable development. 

Such initiatives have been undertaken with the objective of making the university campus greener and more environmentally friendly, addressing the adverse impacts of climate change, and ensuring a livable environment for future generations.
